SHUT DOWN THE ARMY EXPERIENCE CENTER

GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATING IN MAY 2nd ACTION

Filed under: Uncategorized — mermaid @ 11:27 pm

Thank you for being a part of this demonstration calling for the closing of the Army Experience at the Franklin Mills Mall.  That is and always will be the goal of any members of the group.

In preparation, please take a minute to read these guidelines.

  • As persons of peace, we will maintain a peaceful demeanor. This means that we will not express violence of word, gesture, attitude or behaviour to any one at any time.

  • We pledge not to respond, or retaliate in any way to any remarks concerning our peaceful protest of what the Army Experience stands for; why we are excersizing our right to free speech and congregation.

  • We expect that these standards will be honored by everyone here.

  • If you are confronted or feel threatened in anyway by passersby, counter-protesters or those who do not represent any law enforcement officials, just move away and continue in your quest to shut down the Army Experience Center.

  • If you see someone in our group engaged in a difficult situation with anyone other than a law enforcement official, do not get involved in the confrontation or situation.  You may, if you so choose, peacefully remove our person from the situation; if need be, have some others form a circle around our person, or simply contact those who are acting as liaisons with the law enforcement officials, legal observers, or law enforcement themselves.  Do not attempt to break up any unruly encounters.

  • If participating in a nonviolent direct action, such as civil disobedience, we will not run or resist arrest; we will remain accountable for our actions as a means of furthering our witness to the injustice of this situation. Additionally, we strongly encourage that all individuals considering participation in a nonviolent direct action have taken appropriate nonviolence training.

Again, our goal is to join our forces and demand that the AEC be shut down by the owners of Franklin Mills Mall, by the community, and our demands be heard loud and clear by the media.
